I prefer Humminbird over Lowrance. The customer service is better. I think the products are more user friendly as well. I have played with the Helix some and it seems to be a great unit.

I would stick with Lowrance.....just because that is what I like. They are both good units.

I have the 10" and it is a good unit. The only downside for you will be SI on a 5" screen. I think it will be difficult to see details, especially if you run split screen.

I run a Lowrance Elite 4X on my Ascend FS128T kayak. I run a Hummingbird 899 side image on my jon boat with an extra transducer up front on TM to use my Helix 5 SI which I use on both my jon boat up front and my Hobie PA 14. The Helix 5 is a good unit if you are close to it and can read the smaller screen. Perfect for a yak or trolling. If you have bad eyesight I would go with the 7 or 9 as the screen is much bigger. That is the only difference I feel. I like mine and I need to put my glasses on to read it sometimes but most of the time I can see the structure and fish easily without my glasses about 3 feet away. If you can see it fine you may want to upgrade the transducer to the HD version for better signal.
