Good campsites. Cabins are available

The pickerel will bite spinnerbaits and crankbaits.

What about danger field lake. Herd that might be a good choice too. Same distance for me.

I have caught a few pickerel up on the north end just above the bridge at Hawkins. There's a little ramp right there. I was fishing for bass using small spinnerbaits and smaller profile soft plastics; and water temps were in the fifties. I have been to the lake several times in the summer amd spring fishing this area and haven't hooked up with any in warmer water temps though. Bass fishing can be very good though. It's a cool little lake that has lots of grass and very clear water normally, though the one time I went this year it was the day after about 3-4 inches of rain locally and that north end was super stained.

What's the boat traffic like? I've been fishing cypress and Sandlin, I won't go out on the water on the weekends.

I caught what I was later told was maybe a record pickerel there on a big swimbait.

This was last fall up on that North end as well.

Cool fish. I was surprised to see him come up and jump a few times. Lots of gators up that way as well. Keep your eyes out.

I have fished it often. It is a constant level water supply lake and has a lot of timber in the upper end. The best chain pickerel fishing is in winter as they are more active in the cooler temps, I have fly fished for pick's and it's lots of fun . too much ski traffic in summer.
