Recently the memory in my line and the twist has been terrible with the line I use. Granted it is cheaper line, but it's never been this bad. I don't know if it's the current of the lake causing it or if they are spooling the line differently. Just wanted people suggestions on line they use. I'm not a braid fan, but have been debating on changing to it. Please give any suggestions! Thanks

I run 60-80 yards out behind the boat after I spool up before I use it the first time to get the twists out. I use 6lb clear blue stren on my spinning reels and 10lb Vicious Florocarbon on my baitcasters. Been happy with both! thumb

Lay the spool of line on the floor and let the line come off the spool naturally..you don't want the spool to spin. Most times, I lay the spool down, label up. If you see twist developing, turn the spool over.

Braid does solve the problem. I use Power Pro slick. I like it because it comes thru the guides smooth and fast.

Thanks for the advice! I spool it like the video, and there is no twist at first, but it quickly develops. Others that I fish with have been experience the same issue with line twist getting worse and worse. Think I might make the change to braid

I HATE braid personally, and I've been using 4lb mr crappie line with no issues for several years now.

Regardless of what line is used, the reel action and lure can add twists. It just may not be as apparent with braid. One common cause for a buildup of line twist is how the reel is engaged. After making a cast, always flip the bail manually to engage the reel. Turning the handle to engage the drive system will add twists to the line.

Why the hate for braid? I guess that my learning to bait cast with braid sets me apart these days. Mono is too springy for bait casting reels. I have mono on only my teency weency Abu's.

You can't always use one but a swivel helps greatly.
