Mounting a new trolling motor and just realized that I don't think that I can get my hand through the tiny access and my arm far enough up to get nuts on the back. The old mount has isolator bolts. Everything that read on them is negative about them loosening and also breaking from the torque of the trolling motor. The old motor was 45# and the new one is 71#. Anyone use them with success or have another option for me?
Trying to get one of the Grandkids to come over and see if their skinny arms will get up in there but not sure that even they can reach it.

Marine toggles or toggler. A little pricey but they work!

I quit mounting the TM directly to the boat. Huge annoyance. I only use one of the mounting brackets that allows easier removal. So much easier to just mount the lower plate and access the bolts and fit them. If you have a socket set, you can manage everything a lot easier. I use a little painters tape and attache the washer to the nut. Extend it in the socket and then once the bolt goes in the tape tears and the washer and nut are free as usual. If you know a really tall skinny friend, it will speed up the process.

Well, there was no feasible way to get to them. I was going to do the isolators but like I said before I have read a lot of negative reviews on them not holding up. Jones Trolling motor, I looked at those and I think that they will be more reliable than counting on the rubber isolators. I bout a package and am trying them out tomorrow. Thanks for the advise.

Riv-Nuts or Plus-Nuts. They are strong and work well. They come in steel, aluminum, and stainless. I spec them on some of the oilfield equipment I have designed for places you can't get a backup on a nut.

Got a 10-13 year old child handy? Their hand/arm usually fits, and they are old enough to help with that chore. Once they get the washer/locknut on the bolt, you can use a long wrench to reach them to tighten.
What about the large holes with the isolators? Keep the isolators, but cut off the bottom part so they are flush with the bottom surface of the deck. They still provide vibration isolation, but you have upgraded the hardware to a standard bolt/nut.

The access hole is pretty far back. I don't think they'd be able to put a nut and fender washer on without dropping them. It would have been nice if the holes had matched but going from a motorguide to a minn kota. I do have another question about the wiring but am starting a new thread for it.

Guess what? A lot of Minn Kota motors WILL FIT where a Motorguide used to be! I'm not sure about every bracket, but I know that a Fortrex mount will go on a boat using the same holes for a Motorguide Gator Mount for instance, but there is a trick to doing this.
Here is what you need to know: Remove the plastic side plate covers on your Minn Kota Mount. When these are removed, another set of mounting holes is revealed on one side of the mount. These holes (if present) will allow the Minn Kota mount to be lined up on the original but wider Motorguide hole pattern already on the boat. For the Fortrex Mount, the hidden holes are under the right side.
I am not familiar with the Maxxum mount, so you'll have to check it to see if it has alternate mounting holes in the mount frame.

Here is a Minn Kota Manuals page link for Maxxum models. Click on the very first one listed. It is an 80# thrust hand control model, the closest to what you have. Look at that and you will see the "alternate hole pattern" shown. That is their way of referring to the 4 inch wide Motorguide hole pattern. You should not have to drill new holes. I've installed the round inspection plates in decks where I could not reach the fasteners. They look nice and if installed correctly are waterproof. They can save you a lot of time on an installation and they make everything accessible in the future. Just a thought.

I used the snaptoggles. Simple to use. Put one set on perfectly but forgot the tie down strap so had to unbolt and bought another set. They seem to work great. You can't budge the trolling motor. I put a little locktight on the bolts so hopefully they won't loosen
