Looking to use spinning gear to add a few rods to my boat deck. I have two bait-cast setup one for finesse and another for flipping. What would you recommend for crank baits and drop shot or etc.

Shimano Stradic CI4 The best spinning reel on the market if you ask me, is the Stradic CI4. This reel is so versatile and can handle everything from a crankbait to a drop shot, like you mentioned. With high quality components and a smooth retrieve, this reel will get the job done with ease.

Shimano reels, all the top brands make a good spinning rod depends applications. Agree Shimano is top tier. I am told by saltwater focused guys that Shimano is considered the leader in their world. I have less trouble with line twist using Shimano than any other spinning reel brand. (Shimano has some features that help with line management on the spool.) Stratic is fantastic, even Sahara is pretty good for a spinning reel.

I'll be honest for the stradic guys. If I am going to pay in the high $100-$200 then I might just go ahead and pay a little more for a Shimano Curado. I'll have to check out the reels around a $100. Still sounds like I need to stick with Shimano.
Thanks guys.

I have about $120 in my setup and like it, 7' M Abu Vendetta and a Mitchell 300/25. I found the Vendetta to be on the stiffer side but allows be to be a little more accurate but sacrificing distance.

About 1/4 of the setups I take out each time are spinning setups. I use medium-light, medium, and medium-heavy spinning rods with a variety of reels like Shimano, Daiwa and Abu Garcia. I use my spinning reels with braid to a fluoro leader most of the time. My spinning rods are set up with a 1/4 oz popper, 1/16 or 1/8 oz slider head, drop shot, light weight Texas rig 1/16 to 1/8 oz, and a shaky head.
As for gear ratio, my reels are all over the place on that. My reel selections are based on line capacity(size), reel and drag smoothness, and a little on weight.

Like mentioned above, you can buy one near new and get whatever you want cheap. Bass Boat Central will have some good ones on sale.
Or you can go to basspro and get a carbonlite. No more often than you will use it other an drop shot ever now and then it really won't matter what you get.
Thanks, Billy
