Does anyone know what the MotorGuide Dongle actually does?
Does it fix the going rogue issues?

Here is what I know....

You must first do the following:

Compass Calibration & Mounting Calibration.

If you continue to have an issue contact MotorGuide direct 920-929-5040 and they will simply send you a Software Re-Flash Kit to refresh your software. You will then need to send back the Kit they sent you.

Here are some interesting things from other internet avenues....

Q:
You wouldn’t by chance be using the foot-pedal AND the remote would you? If you are, that is your problem. Use one OR the other, but not both at the same time. There is apparently an update to fix this, but since you haven’t updated it, it would likely still be a problem.
I have used the anchor mode to hold in location in 20MPH winds and not one hiccup. Never had an issue with the cruise either.

A:
I have had issues in the past with the foot pedal being in the front storage with a tackle box pushing the momentary switch. Lately I just leave the foot pedal out in the open. I will make sure it is off next time I’m out. Yesterday I used heading lock and cruise all afternoon trolling crappie and only had issues with the cruise.

Q/Statement:
Did you install any updates since new? I had one issue with the GPS functions and got a plug-in update from Reeds the same day..problem solved. Apparently those who actually registered the product received an update via mail

Thank you for the help David. I'll do the mentioned procedures and report back on the results. Hopefully this will be the cure.
As for MG sending updates to registered tmotor owners I must have slipped through the cracks. My tmotor was registered and not notified of any updates.

Seems the software reflash or dongle update may have solved the going rogue issue. Used the anchor mode for a couple of hours and never even a hiccup.I even got the audible tune or confirmation signal code after doing the two full circles with the outboard. I never was able to get that before the update. I'm keeping my fingers crossed to be done with the problem.

That's good to hear fe1. I'll keep this in mind if others are having issues. Glad it seemed to solve your problems.
