I am taking a couple of 11 year old boys out to try to get some crappie in the morning at lake weatherford. I do a lot of bass fishing but not much crappie. I have a boat so I can get anywhere on the lake. I plan on buying some minnows from the marina. Is there any advice you guru's can give?

I would not bother with minnows . Use electric chicken , black and chartreuse , blue and chartreuse . You have to weed through to many small fish . They are hitting jigs great just Aton of shorts

So two 11 year old boys, absolutely get minnows - get the smaller minnows, not the ones that feel like you already have a fish on the line.... I would get some 1/8 oz, chartreuse jigheads to rig them on(through the lips). Last post is correct, brushpiles are holding mostly small fish, most of your big fish are still hanging on the docks. However you have to shoot them(docks, not the fish) to get to the fish, and that may not be good for the boys. There's lots of brush along the dam in 10-14ftw that has fish, and then the big main lake point straight across from the marina has fish. Look for piles around the point in 10-15ftw, fish will be holding at the top of the structure. Good luck!

Both of you guys were spot on. They had a blast they caught about 30 in just a couple of hours. We caught them with jigs and minnows, it just seemed easier for them to drop minnows. I didn't know this but my son's friend that I took, has never caught a fish so he was super pumped after the first one. All the fish they caught were between the 8 and 10 inch range. Nothing big but they had a blast. We found two brush piles on the dam in about 12ft and they were piles on both of them. Thanks again for guys like you who can help get kids out of the house and in the outdoors. Shane

Is the lake traffic dead during the week? Went on sat but went north end to get away from other boats. Lake was lil crowded at dam. Had Lil girl with me. Caught fish had fun. But would like target bigger fish without the boat traffic.

They were scattered along the dam...and liked Cajun cricket for color that day!
