Hey all - recently acquired a 1995 21' 5", dual console Cobra Viper bass boat. I was looking for a "garage queen" and found a very nice boat that is now mine. It's got a 2001 Yamaha X66 series 225 Vmax on it. Will someone please give me some refresher tips on trimming it after the hole shot. My last boat was a 21 ft Skeeter with a Vindicator 200, but this is a different animal. I just want to know what to look for rpm vs speed when trimming. Has a hot foot w/ blinker trim. I only had it out once due to rainy weather, before I had to return to my job in Alaska for my 2 month rotation. Will get it out and do some fishing and familiarization when I'm home, late July. I am curious about one thing. When it's choppy out (2-3 ft chop) what's the best technique in a bass boat???....keep the speed up and trim the motor was up to skip over the tops or slow down, take the beating and suck it up? Smooth water is not a problem and with hydraulic steering, this thing is a breeze. Just looking for some general finesse tips on trimming and also what to do when conditions are not smooth and perfect. Thanks in advance,...I appreciate it and so does my back !!

Depends a lot on the rig, on decent water I trim up until the front is 'porpoising' and then back off a little, after a while you learn where to stop trimming up before going too far. My boat handles choppy water well and I can get up on top of it most of the time for a smoother drier ride. I keep the bow up to keep from nose diving into a bigger wave and only go fast enough to stay on top....

Pretty much as Bronco said. Trim down from the porpoising. If it feels a little slick where it is rocking side to side, trim down a little more. If it feels like you are plowing, trim it up a bit. It won't be long and you will know exactly what it likes.

Never been in a cobra viper. In my Champion I lift the bow and ride on top. Some days the waves are too big or too far apart for that to be comfortable and then I drop the nose and just cut through them. Dropping the bow is more comfortable in my boat but puts more strain on the motor
