I have a 2006 ProXS 225 with a blown power head. What Mercury service center do you recommend in the DFW area. I don't mind driving a little to get good service. Thanks in advance.

Might try Charlie's outboard shop in Alvarado but that drive will save you some head ache. Great shop and could not be happier with them.

Most every boat service center I looked into told me they won't do a rebuild because it takes too many hours. Understandable, they don't want their mechanics to spend too much time on any one project. They only order and bolt on new powerheads, which are basically rebuilds anyways. Some of these powerheads you don't even know what you are getting. Some cylinders are sleeved and others bored. Some crappy mechanics can't diagnose squat! They just work on too many projects and don't look at the underlying issues. If what caused your powerhead to blow isn't addressed, you can be out even more money when you do get out back and running again. Gary found the issue on my motor quickly, showed there wasn't detonation, got all the cylinders honed, putting in oversized cylinders (no sleeves needed) & I got pictures to boot during the rebuild. Talk about making a customer feel like they are putting their prized possession in safe hands. He earned my trust with top notch service and the time he takes to explain everything.
I recommend Gary at Hughes Marine in McKinney. Spends the quality time to explain anything you want to know. He even takes pictures and/or videos of the process. I respect a guy that can go into detail and not take the easy way out by ordering a whole new powerhead and just installing it. He can do a quality rebuild for around half the price of a powerhead w/labor. Powerhead with labor typically is going to run over $6K easy. Gary has a deep understanding of boats, motors and the accessories. Classy, honest guy! Best marine mechanic I have encountered and I am a great judge of character! He'll do you right! I don't see myself using anyone else for any of my future needs either. He backed his work up with a 1 year warranty too! Now that is confidence!

Oh, by the way...Gary's wall at Hughes Marine is lined with all his certifications for all the major marine motor manufacturers out there. Get to know the guy, you will see and hear the difference when you speak to him. That sets him apart from the busy, busy, busy marine shops that don't take the time to explain things and don't take the time to get the job done right. Gary gets busy, but he makes it a priority to treat all his customers like they are his only customer! I am a salesman for a living, so I can appreciate this level of service. It truly is hard to find these days.

Wow, that was quick turnaround too for a rebuild, especially this time of year!
