I'm not going back, so I don't mind saying.

I was awakened by storms this morning and I checked the radar. It looked like it would be out of here by sunrise and I thought it would keep other people off the lake, so I decided to make a run to Lavon on the fly. I fished primarily fished timber and made my first stop on a tree off a main lake point. I didn't realize at the time it would be so shallow, but I caught 3 off of it in 7 feet of water. "They will head to deeper timber when the sun rises," I thought to myself. I was wrong. I fished timber and piles for hours to scratch 5.

I was heading in when I saw the original tree. I swang by and noticed it has submerged willows with shad egg masses surrounding it. I thought I would hit submerged willows that now ring the lake after growing during the drought. I caught at least 40 more fishing 5-8ft of water on shad egg massed laden willows.

Also, fish the main lake points. They were better than secondary points. Have fun.

Thanks for the report. I took the boy out yesterday afternoon trying to find a mess of fish. Tried the old standby trees in 6'-12' and struggled, same as your report. Only managed 3 keepers and a few small fish in 2.5 hours.

We never did try the willows, but I am glad to know someone found them! Congrats on a great day!

It was on the fly. I wouldn't have gone at all if the storms hadn't woken me. I couldn't go back to sleep so I loaded the boat, drove through the rain and the storms ended 15 minutes after I got there at 6am. It was perfect except I couldn't get on them before noon.

The shad spawn is almost over. Thousand on 1cm long shad in the shallow timber. I don't think this shallow bite will last. I bet it was off the chain last week while I was at work. I think I caught the tail end of it, but I wish I could have gone again this morning. I killed them for a couple of hours. 1 keeper for every 3 caught, but I was catching 1 every 3-4 minutes.
