I was wondering the same thing. I was out there Sunday and most (not all) of the grass is gone. Found some on the far west end of the lake but not anything like it normally is. One of my favorite post spawn spots is a hump with grass on it. Not a blade of grass on this this year.

Yeah, there was almost too much of it last year (if there is such a thing), but almost none this year. I don't know if Gilmer flooded last year or this year, but that can sometimes kill the grass off. Other than that, did it get sprayed? Doesn't seem likely since there are only a handful of houses on the lake and it's certainly not a recreational lake. I don't know...

I feel like the floods got it. I was there Saturday and the little grass you could find wasn't very healthy. Lake fished tougher than it ever has for us too even though I know some guys caught them pretty good.

I heard from a friend that lives over that direction and fished it often it got sprayed unfortunately. It is a city owned lake and they decided they didn't like the appearance of all those mats, lol. Cause that tree filled lake is good for something besides fishing. It's not a water source that I'm aware of. It's not any good for recreational boating of any kind with no marked lanes and trees throughout. Other than a small swimming area it is literally only used for fishing and this is what they chose to do. Now it's possible that I've gotten bad info and if so I apologize for rant. But I trust this source a lot and can't imagine short term high water or flood could put a dent in the amount of hydrilla that was in there.

http://tpwd.texas.gov/landwater/water/environconcerns/nuisance_plants/treat_proposals.phtmlAccording to TPWD's website, Lake Gilmer was most recently sprayed in February 2015 for water hyacinth and giant salvinia. A total of 30 or 60 acres were sprayed. Gilmer Lake 2/2/2015 Giant salvinia Chemical Glyphosate or Diquat 30 Gilmer Lake 2/2/2015 Water hyacinth Chemical Glyphosate or Diquat 30 I'd imagine high, dirty water over the past two seasons accounted for the loss of a bunch of grass.

Gilmer has a spillway, no way it can stay high, water just runs over the spillway. There was a little water running over the spillway last Sunday. Maybe the dirty water in conjunction with the spraying did the grass in. 30-60 acres is not much on a 1,000 acre lake.

The water was very muddy for weeks. There was a lot of grass up until the floods came then it disappeared. They sprayed in Feb of 2015 so there has been grass since then. I've seen it in Jan. where you couldn't get 20'yards from the bank and by spring it would be all gone.
