My Sea Star hydraulic steering (boat is a Skeeter ZX190 with a 175 Yamaha) has a lot of play in it and seems to be getting worse. I have to turn the steering wheel a full turn before I get any response from the motor. Air in the lines maybe?? Bad seals? I've never added any fluid or bled the lines so I'm a rookie at dealing with this problem. Any suggestions? I'd like to fix the problem myself if possible.

In all honesty this is probably one of the times you need to take it in to get it looked at. Steering is nothing to play with. You could seriously hurt yourself or someone else if it fails.

Try adding fluid first. It should be a small black cap up around the console somewhere. Add fluid, turn wheel all the way to the right and all the way to the left, repeat process until it won't take anymore. This will get you by, but you need to have someone look at it when you can, they just don't lose fluid for no cause.

^^^^^this, Your Seals are worn and leaking, just had Brad at North Texas Marine put a seal kit on my Gambler/ Merc 250 with a seastar system. Had my rig 2 days @ 180.00 back in business and safe steering is a must. peep

It also could be the ball joint under the steering wheel, if there is not any oil leak showing by the seals.

Same thing happened to me. One day if you don't fix it, then you will run the steering wheel a hundred times without nothing. Took it to the shop and they put new seals and works like new now. The seal kit will cost you bout 125$ there about. I could be wrong about the price but get it fixed before you get stranded and can't turn
