Of the two dogs that bank fish with me one is a lab mix, mostly lab. He'll chase anything I throw. Sticks, balls, rocks, doesn't matter. If I throw it he goes after it. I throw sticks in the river and SPLOOSH he goes right in after it. That dog lives for this.

I caught several bass the other day, on a fly rod just to be on topic, and the lab was there. I'd throw them back in and SPLOOSH, he'd go in after them. Of course he never got close to finding them. But he would search for a long time. After the last fish I threw in he was down there hunting for it for a couple of hours. He is persistent about finding whatever I throw.

Fishing with dogs and cats has it's own amusement value.

There's a vid on you tube showing a dog catching a fish in the water where bread had been thrown. Funny and amazing.

Not sure fishing with cats is gonna go over well even if you don't like cats. I have cats (don't judge) one escaped from a coyotes grasp with only part of a tail. He's kinda of a daily reminder never quit fighting! Second One only has one eye. Not sure either would be good used for fishing. It is fun watching one fall off stuff cause he has no balance and the other keeps an eye on him.

It was funny as all get out to watch the lab search underwater. He'd stick his head under and then come back up for air. I've seen him do this for a golf ball that I threw in, and if the water was shallow enough he'd find it.

My wife has a little black Fiest that goes fishing with us. She will sit there on the bank and watch my cork (sorry, this is while drowning worms with the wife) and will stand up if it starts bobbing under. We have to be careful bringing our hooks in so she doesn't jump up and grab them.
Every once in a while we will throw the small ones in the shallow water at the bank so she can chase them. If they scooch over a foot from where they land, she will look at them and keep right on pawing at the spot where they hit the water.
A few have squirted back up to the edge of the bank where she can get to them, and she tries to pick them up with her teeth. She just ain't real sure she wants to bite them, cause they wiggle. It's hilarious to watch her, because she takes it so seriously.
