I've done hundreds
. One of the things to watch out for, if you're talking foot controlled trolling motors, the standard (shaft length 42 or 45") will not work with a longer shaft. Also, the long mount (52" and 62" shaft) will not work with the 42/45" shaft. In either case, the motor will not rest on the motor rest properly. On one, it comes up too far, on the other, it won't land on the rest unless you raise the motor each time you stow. Also, the long shaft needs the 24" upper shaft while the 42/45" shaft uses the 21" upper shaft. The other obvious is the wires on the shorter will have to be lengthened to accommodate the longer shaft. Other than these problems, the shaft will interchange.
