Looking at options for longer shaft on a Maxxum. Anyone changed one out? Doesn't look like it will be that complicated. Anyone know the cost of a new shaft?

Be careful, changing out the shaft means you must remove the head and the bottom and get it all back together correctly. Take pictures if you are going to do it yourself. I am sure Lake Fork Electronics would be glad to do it for you.

I've done hundreds smile. One of the things to watch out for, if you're talking foot controlled trolling motors, the standard (shaft length 42 or 45") will not work with a longer shaft. Also, the long mount (52" and 62" shaft) will not work with the 42/45" shaft. In either case, the motor will not rest on the motor rest properly. On one, it comes up too far, on the other, it won't land on the rest unless you raise the motor each time you stow. Also, the long shaft needs the 24" upper shaft while the 42/45" shaft uses the 21" upper shaft. The other obvious is the wires on the shorter will have to be lengthened to accommodate the longer shaft. Other than these problems, the shaft will interchange.

Sorry, I should have clarified. I'm talking about the hand control model.

On hand controlled, it's a piece of cake. I've put them in trolling motors for guys the bow fish regularly. Mount isn't as crictical since you're going to raise it up any way. Shafts are apx $30.00
