With the rains last night and waking out to a light north breeze, I headed to the lake with low expectations and a goal of getting some catfish for my mother-in laws freezer. `Pulled away from the dock at 8:30 and headed to go look for some bait. I decided to go west. I got to I35 bridge and looked down and heard my crappie pole calling to me. What the heck. Stop for a few minutes and check it out. Two hours later, I pulled out from under the bridge to go find that bait.
The two hours spent with a roar in my ears yielded a ton of dinks, 5 keepers - one of witch went 14". Blue with chartreuse tales and pink with chartreuse tail where what they wanted. Fish where suspended from about 8' down to about 20' on the cross members.
Couldn't believe how every body that came by needed to fish the same column as me. I was about ready to start releasing my dinks back into their live wells. Still fun to be on a steady thump. Finally picked up some shad and left for the cats. A couple of hours later, left with cats for the mother-in-law and dinner for me.

Do you 'not' like your MIL? Why would you give her those nasty catfish? peep

You also need to ease back on your hook sets. You gave the one crappie (2nd biggest one) a huge black eye.

Good catch. Was it crazy out there? I was looking at my boat sitting in the garage but never drug it out.

Blue Nitro,
I'm new to hard core crappie fishing, so I'm a little selective as to who gets the crappie vs. the cats.
Can usually find some, but getting the quality up so as to have ample to go around is still a challenge. Have the makings for some brush piles that I need to make and place. Hopefully that will get me off all the dinks. Then I can introduce MIL to the quality of Crappie.

This fall should be good so you can stock up on some good ones. Careful putting out 'stuff' in LL. peep

We need to meet up some time to do some fishing on LL. Just no catfish.

Ron, I was lucky enough to catch a ride with Ernest yesterday morning. We fished until 11:00 and there were very few boats out. No wakes, no loud music, and we got to fish where we wanted, as there was little wind. We didn't keep any fish but I think Ernest said we caught 80 something. No big fish, but about half were solid keepers.

What kind of issues are there related to brush piles in Lewisville? I know there are a ton out there, and I know that that doesn't make it right. I have heard that there are either limitations or out right bans in some waters. A couple of years ago, Highland Village had tons of Christmas trees stacked at the gate to Copperas Branch park free for the taking. From that, I assumed that natural material was OK.

It's a Corp lake so the Corp. Rangers can fine you of they see you dumping stuff in the lake. Sure there are piles out there but I hope they don't catch me if I was to decide to do it (no really, I haven't put 100+ condos in there angel). I don't have first hand knowledge but have been warned personally. Now the GW don't seem to have an issue with doing that. hmmm

So the lake is in need of structure, but those adding need to be technically not doing so. I hear you.
I know about ten years ago, someone got in major trouble for cutting a bunch of the standing timber in hickory creek when the lake was down. Wish that was all still there.
And yes, the boat traffic was light and water was almost slick at times yesterday. I think all the ski fleas had already worn themselves out.

So now the question is: what do the Corps Rangers attire look like in relation to the GW? bolt
