2 ramps, 8 folks in line and a dude washing his boat... #11635186 05/30/16 03:19 PM

After seeing threads like "to the guy in the blue basscat" or "to the [censored] in the skeeter" and hearing about how folks "would have said this" and "would have done this" I decided that in order for me to be a real TFFer, if something disrespectful ever happened to me, I must say something.. or I wouldn't be a man.

So yesterday I'm at a 2 lane ramp and it's packed! The line is moving painstakingly slow... it's almost dark and we're all trying to get off the water. When I finally make it to being next in line there's 3 dudes, literally, washing their boat with lake water, on the ramp. They were using a trash can lid to scoop the water from the lake, pour over the boat and wipe it down. Inside and out. 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 people loaded their boats on the one available ramp while these guys are occupying the other ramp. And it was 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 wake boats, pleasure boats, party boats etc with wives trying to back trailers they can't see so you can imagine how long this was taking. Nobody says anything to them.

I'm all juiced up now. Thinking about what my fellow TFFers would do.

So as I'm loading my boat I say, "Hey bud, are y'all washing your boat?"
The one charged with cleaning the inside says, "yes."
I say, "Man, there's a pretty long line of folks trying to load and you're occupying 1/2 the available ramps. You should do that somewhere else."

Then they mumble a few obscenities, the trash can lid guy chuckles a bit as he dips more water from the lake, and they continue on with the detailing.

I finished loading, strapped everything down and left.

I said all that to say, that while we might think it's a good idea to point out all the discourteous things people do on the water, the 2 times I've done it (once for cutting me off that ended in discussions of taking it to the bank and this boat ramp washer dude who cussed me out) I have yet to run into anyone who was receptive to what I had to say. Sometimes it's best just to shake your head and move on, unless you're ready to take it to the next level because it appears there's a disproportionate amount of folks on the lake who are willing to take it to the next level. I'm 2 for 2 with those types.

Anyway, I took one for the team yall. Maybe this guy won't wash is boat on the ramp anymore. smile

On a good note, I caught em good yesterday.

I hate poor ramp behavior but based on the responses to my posts regarding this issue they were probably
Tffrs doing this.

That would have ticked me off too B. Dill, and good for you for saying something. But you're absolutely right--unlike some of the guys on here that think you're not a real TFFer or real man unless you break a paddle over some punk's head or give someone a real arse "whoopin,'" you drew the line at the right place. There are few things in life worthy of violence, or worthy of going to jail for, or worth getting shot for. The way some of the guys talk on here (and it's probably just talk), it's a wonder we don't see more fisherman obituaries.

That is the kind of thing that absolutely drives me crazy. Good for you that you said something. Never ceases to amaze me how inconsiderate some folks can be. Wow...

I agree with Ken, but unfortunately the type of guys that B. Dill talked to probably delighted in the fact that they were holding people up and they think they're the most important thing on planet earth. The percentages say they were in a wakeboard boat, 20 somethings with flat bills and said "bruh" a lot. Just sayin.

One of the best lessons my mom taught me was to not make my problems/issues other people's problems. I feel way too guilty and like a jerk to sit and delay and inconvenience people like that. Being considerate will make you a better person.

Nope. Older center console. I think they were after the tilapia with nets.

It's the age of entitlement. Nothing chaps me more than being at a marina and having to deal with this kind of behavior. I can't understand why the people that run the marinas don't take a little more control of this sort of thing. A few weeks ago I my wife and I were fishing martin creek. We got a late start so we didn't get to the ramp till about 8. Got ready to unload and a barge was tied broad side across the end of the pier next to the ramp. And on old raggedy bass boat was tied to the side of the pier opposite the ramp. The dock was totally unacessible. I knew it was probably left there overnight by someone camping. I let it go and went on fishing. Came in that night and they had not been moved all day. Really ticked my off that the park rangers came and went all day and no one did anything. But that is the world we now live in I guess.

Yep cause damaging your rig and theirs is really how to handle all of this. Thats gonna go over so well as you are standing before the judge.

To the OP, at least you tried. Many would not have said a word then ran home and fired off a rant. You handled it the best way you could and no sense in escalating it to a physical confrontation or damaging property. cheers

I absolutely hate for people to have to wait on me at the ramp, and I know that I'm fast lunching and loading. So much so that one of the first things I did was to teach my girlfriend how to drive up on the trailer so that I'm there no more than a few minutes. I don't understand what goes through some of these peoples heads. If you are wiping down your boat on the ramp I will ask you politely (once) to move. If your boat is knowingly tied to the dock so that others cannot launch/load, it will get untied. If you don't know the common sense procedure of how to act at a boat ramp you have no business being there.

The reason you are 2 for 2 on dealing with those types is thats who is the type to do the dumb $#!+ at the ramp. People with half a lick of respect move on and let others have the ramp. During the rayburn big bass splash I told a guy the first morning politely that his headlights were blinding everybody. He was the only guy with them on, everybody else turned them off once they got close to the launch. He said ok and did it but I'll be danged if both the other days there he was, headlights blaring. I just walked right by his window shaking my head so he could atleast tell I knew he was a dumb @$$. It's not worth a fight but I will politely let people know when they are doing wrong, most just don't know, some are idiots.
