Went out fishing today and realized that my kill switch is not working. It's a 2000 Skeeter zx 180 with a Yamaha vmax 150. Is this common? I never heard of on going bad.

Is it as easy as changing out the switch or not?

If it's just the kill switch assembly itself it's not difficult at all to do... just 2 wires. Just unmount it and the key switch and pull it out. The key switch is connected to the killswitch with a metal bracket usually.

And to answer your other question.. take a multimeter and disconnect the two wires from the back and test continuity.

Have seen the kill switch act up because the lanyard plastic end becomes worn and will not hold the spring loaded switch out enough. The kill switch is not a normal part to fail. I have never seen a bad Yamaha kill switch.
