 Lost my boat keys

What the heck do you do when you loose your boat keys? I have a 94 gambler intimidator and somehow lost the keys. Locksmith said it would cost $120 for a new key. That's insane, anyone have a better cheaper idea?

lots of older motor keys will start most of the same brand motors

FWIW....I've owned many bass boats since the early 70's and have never taken the keys out of any of them....and I take the spare keys and put them in bottom of rod locker....I suppose if you had small children that might climb in your boat or you left your boat in a slip where somebody could drive off with it, there would be a reason to take the keys out..other than that, what have you accomplished by taking keys out?.....it certainly won't stop someone from stealing a boat.....
kinda like taking the plug out of your boat....sooner or later it's gonna bite you......

try someone else's key. My key started a guys boat who left his key at home. I always take my extra with me.

Did the same thing about a month ago. I bought a new ignition off Amazon for like $15 and installed it myself. It wasn't too hard and I have two keys now.

Maybe I'm missing something...what brand motor? I bought a spare for my Mercury for $9.00 on Ebay.

When my cousin was younger, he was so excited to go fishing and he was running down the boat ramp at diablo east and tossed the boat keys to his dad who had just put the boat into the water and was drifting away. He overshot him and the only set of keys he had went into the lake. My dad couldn't help but laugh but man was my uncle pissed!!
Turns out they had a key from a yamaha ATV and it started his boat motor.
