Good morning fishing fans,
Here's a quick run down on the current fishing conditions at lake fork and what patterns and baits have been working for us.
The fishing has continued to improve over the last couple of weeks and it will continue to get better with more fish starting to set up off shore.
The water temps in the areas I've been fishing are ranging from 74-80 degrees depending on the day.
We've been starting every morning on secondary points and flat banks with coontail and alligator grass throwing a yellow magic and a Rat-L-Trap echo 1.75 squarebill. This bite has been good, but short lived. Later in the day I've been backing out on the same spots throwing a Santone Football jig (1/2,3/4 and 1 oz) in Pb&J in 10-15 ft. Be sure to experiment with your presentation on the jig. Some days they want a slow dragging presentation and other days an aggressive hopping and swimming presentation has worked better. Pay attention to when your bites come and let the fish tell you how to work it.
We've also been catching a few a day on an 8 and 10XD (Chartruse blue back and Tennessee Shad) cranking points and humps. The important thing here is to make casts at the fish you graph from several different angles to trigger a bite. Our most productive bait out deep has still been the santone football jig tho. If I were heading out to lake fork this weekend id spend a lot of time with that bait on secondary points.
I hope this helps those of y'all coming out to lake fork. I have a few dates left before the skeeter owners tournament if anybody is looking to get on some of the good unders we have been catching, and some mid-late June dates if you're just looking to get out here and get after some big ones. It's a great time to be at lake fork!
Everybody stay safe this weekend with all the boats out for the holiday.
Good luck and good fishing!
