We just moved down here and I'm really looking forward to fishing the river a good bit. I've hit a couple spots already and there seems to be no shortage of bluegills and small bass. Gonna break out the yak soon and try some more water. Are there any areas that have potential for big fish? Rios??

Further down river around Sisterdale I have caught some nice Rios in the past. hooked The river has some very strong currents now due to all of the rain we have been having this spring. eeks I mainly fish the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake. Always get bigger fish on the river lakes. thumb

There is some gorgeous water upstream of Kerrville on both forks of the Guadalupe. Get yourself a copy of Kevin Hutchison's book Fly Fishing the Texas Hill Country. Though slightly dated, it still has the latest and most thorough set of descriptions of all the Hill Country rivers, including mile by mile access points, etc. Be aware that Kendall County has a law that prohibits accessing the river at bridges and river crossings (to cut down on tubers, mostly). That includes the area near Sisterdale.

I have lived in Kerrville 37 years now and fished most of the time.

Most places are disappointing but pretty. The good places are not public information.

You are invited to join Hill Country Fly Fishers and Fredericksburg Fly Fishers. HCFF has a Facebook page. We have several trout leases on private property in the winter.

You will also enjoy the Llano River, but the Guadaulupe shines at times.

Not too bad in Kerrville. You have Nemitz the lake behind the Lake House and Chilies restaurants, Louise Hays park and Flatrock park. Good abundance of sunfish. Lots of redbreast, redear, an longear. I've caught Redear up to 12" and bass to 22' on the fly. Lake Ingram can be pretty good as well. Lots of Guadalupe bass too.

Yeah, doesn't seem to be any shortage of fish around, just needs the rains to hold off a bit. Been catching lots of numbers of Long ears and blue gills with small guads mixed in. I'll have my kayak back after this weekend so Ima get all up in that river next week.....
