I used the same one for close to two years, with no issues. Now, every time I go to use it, it is clogged up?? I plan to replace it and see if I get another "trouble free" couple of years.

I haven't had any trouble since I started mixing my own "Head Cement".

If you keep it thin and use it regular, like almost every day you should never have that problem at least if you mix your own like I do and Pepop learned to do. It's easy and cheap over the long term. I still have the sane 2 qt cans I started with over 10 years ago now and both are at least half full still today!

I am having the trouble with "factory" water based head cement, probbably the same stuff the OP is using. It is "gumming up" on the inside of the cap, around the nozzle.

I wonder if it could be thinned with a little water????

Looks like it's time for Skip to share his recipe again.

MEK Solvent & Gloss Laquer, a 50/50 (approximate) mix. I bought both components in 1qt cans and transferred all into 4, 16oz restaurant condiment squeeze bottles then I mixed a pint in a 5th bottle to refil my "needle point" applicator bottle. IDK but I OBVIOUSLY use WAY more than Skip does because I've been mixing for less than 1 year and I've probably used 1/2 of the pint bottle I mix in! Anyway, it's good stuff and even though I'm probably using WAY too much it's still a lot more economical than buying the 1oz bottles of head cement at 3-4 bucks a pop!

I listened to and tried to follow your suggestions, Skip...mixed MEK with polyurethane...works well, but I do not use it regularly..I guess that is the problem

I do not use polyurethane, just regular clear high gloss lacquer. Never said anything about polyurethane. I do not know the difference actually so that may be fine, I do not know. I do know the MEK and Lacquer I use on every jig I tie that is not a thread neck style. If thread neck style I make some flexible glue that is the same as Dave's Flexament, but that is totally different stuff.

Also different that Pepop I do not mix it all! I put some of each in desperate bottles and keep for adding more. I start with my little plastic bottle mixed and if it gets low I add a little of each in. If it gets a little thick I just add s little more MEK! I would never mix it all as it will not stay that consistsnce over time and will thicken so at some point Pepop will have to add more MEK I believe!
