Took the yak to Lake Raven today with the intention of familiarizing myself with the (evidently) almighty Senko. I always have trouble catching fish out there, and from what I've heard Senkos are simply fish-catching machines so this was the test. Ended up catching two, which may sound unimpressive until you consider that I typically catch two total fish in 3-4 trips there. So I was impressed...looking forward to trying them out on a more "typical" lake.

It is my go to bait. Got to go to Mexico a 10 or so years ago. Got an 8 day one and a 9 & 10 day two. It is so bad when my friends are catching on everything else I'm still chunkin a senko. I do get a lot of bites when I am fiddling with other things on the boat. There must be something to that. Good luck. JD

Fished a little local lake Monday night. I went for three hours. I fished all my usual spots with a red eye shad, then went back with a yellow magic. Then, over the same exact spots again with a Senko. Results

First hour was red eye and yellow magic. 0 fish
Last two hours was Green Pumkin weightless Senko in a 0/3 Trokar....20 or so bass. Average was around 9/10ths of a pound. Biggest was 2 1/2 lbs.

Yes....when nothing seems to get em, a Senko is brutal!!! Haha.

If I have conditions where I can throw a weightless senko, I do. Easily one of my favorite techniques. Stay patient and keep with it, you'll be glad you did.

I get more bites on them when wacky rigged. Love fishing them that way.

Patience is key. If you are casting to visible cover, you always try to put it right in the best spot. So you make the perfect cast by that buck brush and then immediately drag it away! Don't do it. Let it just soak up there for a while....like this...1 ten pounder, 2 ten pounders, 3 ten pounders.....count up to 15 if you can stand it. Then raise your rod, weigh the line and cross her eyes!

Did you use the built in deflection?

I just got my first Senkos but haven't used them yet.
Any preferred ways to rig them? Weighted/weightless? Wacky? Texas? Carolina?
I'm sure this is like asking how you want your steak prepared.

I always have one rod for wacky rigs and another for Texas rigs with me every time I go out.

When I make long casts to grass, etc... I use the Texas rigged (weightless) 5" and 6" senkos on a casting rod.

If I am fishing close targets (docks, reeds, etc...) I'll use the wacky rig with a 5" Senko on a spinning rod.

Do you guys fish wacky in a drop shot set up?
