With all of the fast currents on the Guadalupe River along with creeks being a muddy mess I decided to fish some area ponds. Fished two ponds and the bite was great at both locations. Got good numbers and quality Bluegill and Redear. Fish were all in the 7 to 9 inch range and full of fight. Both ponds were in excellent condition with clear water and good grass beds. Fish were located by reed beds, grass beds, and over hanging tree limbs. Fish were in 3 to 6 feet of water. Fish were caught on worms and Berkley Trout Worms both natural and orange in color. Bottom and float techniques were used. All fish were released to fight again. After a day fishing the ponds I had a great lunch at Lupe's Tacos on FM 725 just east of New Braunfels. Catching some great pond action and eating some super Mexican Food at Lupe's Tacos. It just don't get any better! fish

Congrats Banker. You always find'em and get'em to bite. Tell me about the trout worms please. How long are they and how do you bait a hook with them. I need to keep some kind of bait with me for use when I do not have live bait. Do you fish them on a bottom rig, float rig, or both?

Thanks fish 'till I drop for the reply! cheers The Berkley Trout Worms are my go to artificial bait. I usually use them when the bite is non stop and the fish are very active. Fish have a very hard time getting them off the hook and I usually catch bigger fish using them. I bait them just like I would a live worm. Texas Rigged. I usually leave about an inch or two over the exposed hook. I fish them using both a float and bottom techniques. The natural color works the best. I use the orange color if the water is muddy or stained. You can usually buy them at Acadamey. thumb

Thank you very much Banker. The pictures are helpful. The package says the worms are 3 inches. Do you pinch off any of the worm, or use the whole thing?

I pinch the pieces off. I usually use about 3 to 4" for the sunfish. 6 to 10 inches on bass!. hooked

Great report as always Chuck.

The creeks are a mess around here too. Lake Somerville is up 10 ft above normal already and more rain coming. Pond fishing has continued to be fairly good.

I've been having fun catching white bass below the spillway on my fly rod lately. They will be releasing water for the next couple months so at least I have that outlet to fish. I sure want to get back to fishing places like the San Marcos and Little Blanco though.

fish 'till I drop : No problem Sir. cheers The trout worms are a great go to artificial bait. Been using them for years. Jamie: Thanks for the reply. With all of the rain we have been getting seems the ponds clear up the best. Getting pretty good numbers of both Redear and Bluegill out of them. Will be fishing them a lot this summer! thumb

Chuck, you remind me a lot of an old buddy of mine in Colorado, who had to either begin or end every trip we made to the mountains with food from some local hole in the wall Mexican joint up in God's Country! He was a Dos Equis guy, however... wink

I am not as technical as you Jagg! I have called that a Texas Rig all my life and to me that is what it is. I know that the hook is put back into the worm once it is threaded. I always leave the hook exposed for sunfish. That is just me. thumb

Awesome post Chuck. With all the rain we have been having those ponds will be a good place fish. Does a lot of rain effect the bite on ponds? Again awesome post and some nice fish. Good job!
