We do have them around here and timber would be my first guess. Not sure, but I think they are protected.

That is a timber rattlesnake

They were or are protected in Texas.

Usually dense wet forest areas. I've seen a few in red river county

No. The timber rattler can approach 5 feet I believe, but most are under 48 inches.

Old Velvet Tail rattlebug right there. Canebrake or Timber rattler which ever you prefer. I believe they are now listed in Texas as endangered.

Yup, timber rattler, protected in Texas but can be legally killed if posing a threat.....just don't try to sell it!! I have them and some diamondbacks on my place in N.E Tx, the timber rattlers tend to be bigger on my place slinger
