A couple of years ago I found a tiny crab in the Brazos. After some research I found that it is an invasive species called a Zuiderzee crab (Rhithropanopeus harrisii).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhithropanopeus_harrisiiAt the time I was just disappointed that if we have to have crabs in the river why couldn't they be big crabs that I could eat? I love crab, but these only get about as big as your thumbnail. Several years before that I'd read that drum are freshwater cousins of redfish. At some other point in time I read that a good fly for redfish is a crab imitation.
Yesterday those three things came together in my mind, took a while for the connection. So I got online and ordered three crab flys meant for saltwater fishing, that look something like the Zuiderzee crab. They'll get here before the river goes down enough to try them out. Maybe drum will go for these...
In the meantime I'm wondering if anyone else has tried these in freshwater and what kind of results they had? Anyone?
