I use the Penn Battle II in size 2000 for bass. These are $83.53 at Amazon. For rods, it depends on what you are using it for but most spinning rods are medium power. For MH, I have an Abu Garcia Vendetta 7' which is about $75.00.

Shimano Sahara is a good reel for about $80. I also like the new Mitchell 300 Pro reels, for about $70. I have 2 of them. For a rod, Shimano Compre rod for $100 is a very lightweight, sensitive rod. I have 2 6'8" medium rods.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I have a couple of Shimano Symetre reels that I bought on Ebay for around $60.. they are $99 new. I bought the 1500 series because I was fishing for Spots in Georgia.. but they have done well out here in Texas. I have a 2500 series Pfluger on my Shakey Head rod that is a pretty nice reel. I too use braid with fluro leader.. Its a great combination to fish finesse type baits where feel is really important.
