Ditto on the cable coming loose. I have used a motor guide since my first bass boat in 1974. But 4 yrs. ago I bought a Nitro Z8 with a 36v motor guide trolling motor. 3 months to the day after I took delivery the motor locked up. I carried to an authorized repair shop and they told me the magnets in the stator had broke free and jammed it. They put a new foot on it on warranty. I installed a strap tie down to help keep it from bouncing in rough water. Less than 6 months later it jammed again. This time my son drove from Dallas to Amisted to fish a FLW Collegiate tournament. When he got there he found the motor locked up. Repair shop again said magnets were the problem and they put a new lower unit on it. 4 months later same thing. Motor Guide sent me an entirely new motor still in the box. I carried it to Bass Pro Shops paid them #110 difference and put a Minn-Kota 112lb Fortex on it. Haven't thought about a trolling motor since. My vote goes to Minn Kota.

I guess u did not get the updated wheels several years ago.

The new x5 has plastic wheels....

Did not notice that on the X5, but was not looking for them either. Those sucked on the tour editions.

I have been running trolling motors for years now. Guiding for 34 years and tournament fishing. I have ran several kinds of TM with the most being a MK but I ran MG also.

I would have to give it to Minn Kota for most durable with little to no issues and long lasting and they just take a beating and keep going.

When you fish like I do probably 250 plus days a year you have to go with a Minn Kota if you want to stay on the water not in the shop. IMO

Minn Kota Guide Approved smile IMO

I've got a MG that is about to turn 20 years old next year and I've never had a single problem with it.

Ran MG for 20 years, at least 4 bent shafts and the cable breaking or coming off the wheel maybe 2 or 3 times, MK for the past 10 years, zero issues, I think both are great motors but the MK is more durable.
