I have a family reunion at LBJ this weekend and I've never been to the lake. I am taking an uncle fishing and need a little head start if possible. I tried hiring Charles Whited but he will be at Canyon that weekend. If any of you LBJ folks don't mind sharing, I would love to know a general area and a typically good pattern for the lake. We will be staying up the Colorado at Log Country Cove. Thanks for your help gang!

Fished a Team Trail tournament there yesterday. Not a local...so don't mind sharing what we found. If you stay in the Colorado, try flipping craws, creatures, and small brush hogs (gr/pumpkin & wat/red) around the docks, trees, rocks, and launches. If you head down to the main lake (pleasure boaters and crazies aside...which will be out in full force), I would focus down near the dam. Find any drain that you can off of the main lake points that are holding grass. Most of the bass are still in post spawn mode, and haven't made it to their deeper summertime haunts yet. Drag the same baits that you would have used up the river. Unless you are planning to night fish, I would stay away from Horseshoe Bay. Although we caught our best fish (a little over 5 pounds in 22 FOW), we got swamped 3 times from the wake boats running around in there.

Hope this helps. Be safe...when they're out running, the pleasure crowd over there acts like they don't even see an angler's boat. Be prepared to yield the right of way, even if you have it.

Thanks Ron. I think we'll be staying in the river. I appreciate the head start.

There are many places to fish and get away from the pleasure boats. If you're staying around Horseshoe Bay, there are some canals and big coves holding big bass. If you're staying in and around Kingsland, hit the canals and throw top water around docks and in shaded areas. I will be there this weekend as well and I can't wait to rip some lip!!

I love the lake but will not fish it in the summer until most of the pleasure boats get off the lake. Be very careful out there.
