I know some of the guys on here do this too - Go walk/paddle around any lakes near you and look for abandoned cast-nets... cleans up litter and free weights all in one... seems i can't go on the water here in grapefine/lewisville and paddle by any stretch of public shore w/o seeing at least one or two ruined ones which i grab if i'm able to.

Cast net weights are a great idea, I've been waiting to find a way to use my ripped net for awhile now

The goop ought to be dry by the time I wake up this afternoon, then to string em up and put them to use tomorrow!

Look good! If you put a weight in you may have to trim a small bit of the foam on a couple of them for them to be able to stand up or "flag" that you had a bite. Good luck!

I made my weights with concrete using 12 oz Dixie cups with some galvanized fence wire for an attachment point. Big fish, or turtles, will still drag them off and wrap them around a tree so don't be surprised if you lose some. On my newer jugs I'm using trotline clips with swivels so I can move or remove hooks whenever I want to.
