We were seating around drinking coffee before church yesterday and talking about what would you do if you caught a lake record. Some said go and get it weighted others said just keep silent about it. Really made me think what would I do if I caught one. Myself, if someone catches a lake record, I like to hear and feel very happy for the one who caught it. But I also understand some people like to keep it to themselves. Trying to keep a hot spot silent. So I will ask ya'll....
Would you go and get the fish weighed or just keep it silent?

Either way is a good way as far as lake or water body records go. Some Anglers take the time and effort to complete the record process while others choose just to not. Either way is good. The main thing to always remember is you caught a good fish no matter if you recorded it or not! Keep having fun and enjoying the outdoors is what it is really all about.

I've been there several times. The best choice is to buy your own scales, get em certified, and send in the info yourself. If you decide to release the info you can do it at anytime. If you take it in to get it weighed people will find out about it quickly and it's usually a lot harder on the fish anyways. If you don't have your own certified scales then yes, take it in and get it weighed because you just don't see em enough. It's worth it. But, if you have scales that are certifiable you can always get em certified up to I believe 30days after the catch.

I'm driving all over town with it in the back of my Z71 If it bottoms out my 110# scale, then we going too town. I'd just tape, weigh and CPR that fish.
I'd Tack That!!

I have caught 2 lake record longnose gar from the same lake. Each one would have eclipsed the existing lake record of 22 lbs. Each was released to wreck somebody else's tackle. Records are not all that important to me but I have no problem with anyone who has their fish certified. Happy to see them do well.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

I've had customers catch a record and not care to register it and we've had customers catch them and send in the record in the way home, lol
It's A great program and I really especially like the junior record program.

The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

Since you asked- I have what compared to many is a small lake near me- I have beat the recorded lake record several times there but I am fine knowing it and just CPR'ing it- I bet I'm not the only one that has and felt the same way I do- I don't care to keep certified scales on the boat and I don't want to stress the fish as much as I'm sure that it would -

What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Where I live, we are just 20 minutes to a hour drive from 4 different lakes. The main one I fish, the rod and reel blue cat record was just a little above 10# for the longest. Someone finally took in a 30# to get weighed. When the record was low, I seen lots of blues caught that were bigger, but no one knew where to go to get them weighed. Sense Tractor Supply came in, lots of the lake records have fallen.

I personally would love to get a lake record or see my daughter get one. However, I wouldn't want to see a fish die so I could get recognition. If I had the means to transport a record fish to a certified scale, then back to the water, I would do it. Right now, I don't have the accessories so I will just CPR.
