This just started. When motor is idling it has a slight vibration but as you throttle up it seems to go away. It's also not getting on plane as quick and top speed dropped about 7-8mph (gps). Could this be a spark plug or coil problem? Had one coil replaced last September and the mechanic said to expect another to go out at some time, a problem that Mercury has had in the past and was covered under warranty but not anymore.

Just had a similar problem and it was electrical. Lost spark to two of my cylinders. Took it to my mechanic and he found the problem in about 5 minutes.

Feel like it is something simple. What did he have to do?

Hooked up some gizmo to it that arcs so you can see the spark on all cylinders. Mine was a little easier to diagnose because all of the electronic components except 2 had just been replaced. Mine was the switch box assembly. I tried the spark plug route before taking it in. He told me the same thing, the last component will go out within a year so prepare for it. Mine was carbs though not FI so it could be fuel related I guess.

If you have: When motor is idling it has a slight vibration but as you throttle up it seems to go away. You are down a cylinder because of the ignition, an injector or compression.
