No there's not a huge difference in the 400 and 580 glass. 580 is a little thinner I think, its a tiny bit lighter. But both are very good looking.

I beg to differ on the difference in 400G vs 580G. The 400G doesn't have the light filtering technology that 580G does (two US patents). 580G filters out low end blue and harsh yellows that 400 doesn't. At 20% lighter than standard polarized glass, the weight gap between polycarbonate and glass is getting slimmer with 580G. I've gone exclusively to 580G now. My opthamologist is a fan of that lens; he showed me with his optical equipment how it was optically correct. That's what gives them such high clarity. He also said the quality will allow the eye to be more relaxed because it isn't dealing with a fuzzy image (polycarbonate) that can actually give some a headache.

Only problem I have with 580G is that I see the fish coming to eat my bait sometimes and I react too quick and pull it away from them. They are awesome!

See you on the lake and have a great day!

The 580 lens is clearer and has zero distortion. The difference between the lenses is not dramatic, but there is a difference to me anyway.

I went with the 580gs went to cabelas I definitely could tell a difference in the 400g and 580g the 400 seem to be darker and the 580gs seem to pop the color out more I felt as if the 400 would block more light because how much darker they seemed to me but I know that is not the case.

The same color lense in the 400 is not darker (where darker is less light transmission). I believe that Costa's specs show the two types to be equal in percent of light transmission. (They will tell you if you don't find it on the website.) What is probably happening is that the contrast increase with 580G tricks the user into thinking more light was allowed in, when in fact that is not happening. For either technology, blue mirror and Green mirror are 10% transmission of light level! Silver mirror is a whopping 12%. They blocks THAT much - your pupil just dilates to compensate to some extent. It's interesting that we can see so well with so much light blocked.
