Hi all, I'm really new to fishing and from the Clear Lake area.

I was hoping anyone could give me some advice on overall gear setup combinations and good specific fishing areas close to where I'm at? I've heard Ugly Stiks are good! But I don't know any really good spots that are relatively close to the Clear Lake area? I suppose Galveston but I don't know a lot about where in Galveston? Are there any other places besides Galveston to go pier fishing?

I'll probably mostly be fishing off of piers or something similar to that. My dad used to take me to small community piers and we'd fish for speckled & sand trout with the occasional Red. It's been many years since then and I have not fished since, but even then we were very novice, didn't know a whole lot.

I guess I'm just pretty lost since I'm new and am looking for a sense of direction. I've been watching Youtube videos and such to get a better feel for things but having people directly address me personally is also very helpful to me.

Thanks all!

Wading will catch more than a pier.
Learn to read water. Pick out two lures and learn how to get bit.
Get the trout support dvd.
Find someone to learn from.

I do a search in all the fishing forums online before I go to some place new. Many reports online from people that have fished the area you want to go to. Even you tube has videos from people fishing certain areas. I do a search for the area then narrow the results down by date (even last years date to get an idea of how they bite this time of year and where). I get so much information from previous visits or years that I can duplicate their efforts and catch fish.
Like Pat said one of the best investments you can make are the Trout Support DVD's from Trout Support. They are magnificent at giving you the tools to find and catch them anywhere.
Good luck!

York - welcome

This is great advice to get started and more importantly increase your likely hood of catching fish!
