Last weekend me and a friend went down to the Texas City Dike and tossed a crab pot out I bought from Wal-Mart. We baited it with chicken legs and had some success. 30-45 minutes after we tossed it out we checked it and had 2 blue crabs in it. We baited our big rods and tossed them out. Over the coarse of around 6 hours of fishing we ended up catching 3 total. Just wondering what typically works best for y'all, I want to try a new bait hopefully this weekend if the weather ever again permits to.

Chickens ok,but any old fish head works the best...try a piece of mullet or croaker. Stop by a fish cleaning station if your not fishing.

Thanks Troy, we tried Shad too that we picked up 3 weekends back and froze because of the dang rain! The Shad was too soft to use on our big rods so we just loaded the pot with it. Didn't have any success with that but it wasn't out too long and it may have been too soft for them.

When we go to the coast we have a ball catching crabs, them suckers will fight each other...just cut a mullet in half or fillet it halfway and tie a string to it with a nut or something for weight. Sometimes There will be two or three on it when you pull it in...They will hold on to that a lot longer than they will a piece of chicken.

Sweet, I will have to try that! We bought a crab pot from Wal-Mart for $30.00 and 50' of 550 paracord, it worked fairly well.
