Hey guys, I have been following this section for quite some time. I'm finally posting on here because I need some help. I am taking my daughter out this weekend with hopes of hooking up with some good pan fish. She is 6 years old and she has been out fishing with me for 3 years now but we have never really fished for bluegill or sunfish. I know she would love the action and the appearance of the fish. We live in Irving and I usually fish for bluegills at the creek of Bachman Lake. There has to be some better places. Can you guys help me out so I'm not driving around to a million places this weekend. Thanks!

Great section of the forum is this one for sure. There are some anglers who live in the Dallas area that post here often. Hopefully some of them will respond. The main thing is to try to find a place with plenty of fish even if they are small. The more action the more enjoyable especially for a six year old. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Side Note: Welcome to the Texas Fishing Forum. Bluegill section.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah this section is great. I used to have a spot with dozens of small bass and she loved that but now that spot is gone so I figured the best way to go would be panfish. I used to love fishing for them as a kid and I still love fishing for them with my micro rod or fly rod. I call pan fish my redemption fish because when I have no luck catching bass or carp I always know I will catch some panfish. haha.

In the Bankfishing Forum there is a map of Texas bank fishing spots.

You can also try the Southwest Nature Preserve in South Arlington, near I-20 and Bowman Springs Rd. The ponds there are catch and release. We have caught plenty of 'gills there on Fly Rod.
