So me and my brothers and some friends are renting 2 bay boats from South Bay Marina in Port Aransas on June 3rd. Can anyone provide some advice as to where we should go fishing or what fish to target and what baits/rigs to use. I mainly fish fresh water and my saltwater knowledge sucks. Last few attempts at fishing on the coast haven't produced any fish, which is why we are renting our own boats this time. We will be fishing from 7:30AM to 5PM unless we decide to return the boats sooner. $120 for an all day rental isn't bad and I couldn't pass it up this time.

Get a hook setter map.
It will show known gaming areas.
Read your reports and match the conditions to the map.

Giving out specific spots on the Internet ain't gonna happen.

Your post piqued my curiousity, so I went to their website. Those little skiffs look like they'd be fun & $120 a day seems pretty reasonable. But, they probably don't run very fast - I would guess the motor is 15 or 20hp. So you'll want to figure out decent fishing not too far from the dock.

Also noted their warning about not crossing the Corpus Christi ship channel. Even with that restriction, you'll have plenty of good fishing area to try. Only specific 'spot' I can think of is public information anyways - the SS John Worthington shipwreck in the Lydia Ann channel.

Thanks for the advice guys, Yeah I don't expect specific locations but I wasn't sure on depth of water to target or general areas which are good. I didn't know about the SS John Worthington so I'll have to check that out.

Maps show grass and potholes. Your prime trout water will be broken up grass with green to stained water not crystal clear. When you see that combo stop and be thorough.

what mr. Goff said is very true but sometimes fish can be caught in dirtier water. high winds make for dirtier water.grassy with pothoes is preferred. chug corks to potholes and pause for a few seconds and hang on!

Molting represents or mimicks the color that we get when the "white shrimp" migration takes place.

Buy enough of those tasty bay shrimp year round when they are fresh daily and you will notice the 'brown shrimp' runs vs. the 'white shrimp' runs.

Adjust your lure colors accordingly.

1st off...understand the rules of the road and navigating around other boats... and 2nd ..been there...done that with those boats. Unless things have changed..Bring your own anchor and rode, nothing big is needed its a small boat, also plan on your own cushions cause your butt will be sore after sitting on hard fiberglass all day, stay in the channels or deeper water where you can, its illegal to uproot seagrass and there is a lot of shallow areas and oyster reefs. Plastic PVC pipes mark reefs and shallow areas..dont go to close to them..look for the pattern of the pipes and you will see how to get around them..Light Green water is usually deeper, dark brown is oyster or shallow grass, light sandy spots are the potholes and probably shallow as well...The SS Worthington is to far away and you cannot cross the channel safely in that little boat..dont even try it..Get a hook n line map of the area, stay around Stedmans Island, Sailboat Channel, Hog island, Corpus Christi Bayou, all are within sight of South Bay marina............ha ha..marina, that's a good one..makes me laugh...if you want more info pm me

Happy to help you with some tips. I have a place down there and fish several times a month in that area. Send me a PM with your cell number and I will take some pics of Google map locations of my favorite spots while I'm there this weekend and then text the pics to you. Good luck!
