Water temp was 80.
Outside air temp in morning, 63 degrees
Winds out of North West blowing 10 to 15mph in morning
Winds still out of North West decreasing to 5mph around 1pm.
Water clarity, 24 inches or more. Best Ive seen it in a few weeks
Baits used -- yellow magic top water
Fish landed 63.
Best fish of the day. ** 5.11 pounds.
Several 4lb. Fish.
Several double hook ups.
Average weight of the fish caught. ** 3lbs.

Im going to call this trip a once in a life time trip for thee reasons.
1. Ive never heard a fishing story told like this one before.
2. Ive never read a fishing report like this one before.
3. This is most defiantly one of the best top water days I have ever had.

Ok, here we go. Zertis (Rick) and I use to fish Fayette together for years. Between my health issues and his, we have not been able to set up a fishing trip together for the past two years. But we finally got a trip together. We arrived early in the morning and fished all day, something like 12 hours. Any how, I went straight to a spot where I had caught some good fish on top water. We picked up a few there, but it was slow. Moved to another area and got into them pretty good. Moved to another area and it was on fire. This area had like 500 yards of shore line to cover. I put it this way, by the time we ran it, we could go back from the starting point and run it again with great success. All of our fish were caught in two to four feet of water. I dont care how far we made a cast, we would work our baits all the way back to the boat because you never knew when or where the blow up was going to transpire out of no where.. I can not tell you how many fish hit it right at the boat. Apparently these fish liked my Fleetwood Mac tunes, because I had it going the entire trip and it didnt seem to bother them at all.
But I cant think of better person to have shared this experience with. I think the success of this top water fishing trip has been set at a very high bar level myself. I may not ever be able to beat this trip or ever even come close matching it again. I dont care who you are, that is a lot of bass caught on top water baits. With the success we were having with top water, we could not see any reason to adventure out and throw plastic or cranks.

For you folks that are going, if there is a heavy overcast shy, or even a some what partly cloudy day, I would keep throwing a top water, they are feeding shallow. I can throw a top water bait on this lake and Bastrop just about any time of he day and get bit.
The lake level was pretty high on this trip, plus the rain we got today will only bring it up more, so you might want to call Oak thicket to make sure the lake is open first. They just opened it back up about two weeks a go due to flooded lake.

Good trip and report. The bass are lively now after all the rain and floods and little pressure since they were closed for a while.

Two reasons why I like this lake.
1. I have three traffic lights and four stop signs from my drive way to the boat ramp.
2. For the most, I seem to always find some decent fish in a short period of time.

Well, maybe three. LOL
3. I burn very little fuel while running this lake.

Nice work, this lake has repeatedly vexed me on the topwater bite. Glad to hear they do chew on top! Sounds like I could be picking my days wrong.
