Is it about time for this event?

Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

If you're talking about the rod riot, there wouldn't be anything to get excited about any more.

The store in Plano at Spring Creek Parkway and US 75 is about half stocked on almost all items - sporting goods, shoes, fishing, hunting, etc... They removed the big shelves on the front wall of the store and the entire fishing section was picked through. Not sure if they are closing the store or not, but if not, they must have missed the last few shipments.

There just aren't many quality rods offered any more. They seem to have cut back on rod selection and availability. Other offerings, like soft plastics, has remained good.

That Academy and the one on Forest Lane have consistently been the worst for fishing lures/equipment.

I was at the Academy in San Angelo yesterday. 65-75% stocked up on rods, most baits are good, graphs are lagging big time there, as well as graph accessories. I was looking for some transducer adapters and asked if they had any. The guy went on a 5 minute rant about how they are not getting good shipments and not carrying the important items anymore.. I wrote it off as the typical Corporate sucks rant that nearly every company has.

I can't figure these stores out. One will have a fishing section that looks like it is going out of business and another will be fully stocked. I could understand this if they were all independently owned but I don't think that is the case. I went to a store the other day that has completely rearranged it's hunting and fishing section. They separated the "gun bar" from the "fishing bar". This will be great for shoppers who are tired of waiting for a sales person to assist them because there are a majority of gun buyers standing in the line. Unfortunately, there was no one at the "fishing bar".

Agree with the above except for the one by Carswell AFB. I was in the area & just stopped in. The rods were on separate manufacturer free standing kiosks & fully stocked - a very nice display. Hopefully this will be the floor plan for the rest & the reason for low stock.

The Academy in Texarkana has the individual rod kiosks too. I figured they were all like that. I don't visit Academy around DFW, so nothing to compare it with.

Some of the Academy stores on the Houston area have those individual manufacturer rod holders and some don't. I have been to a few stores that were so disorganized hat the bait casters and the spinning rods were all mixed together.

Overall, I would give Academy a 5 on a 1-10 scale for their fishing departments. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Academy has three sales priorities: gun sales, fitness clothing sales, and shoe sales.
