As long as the wind stays under control on Saturday I plan on taking my son to Lavon to try and find some crappie. It's kind of funny. I live ten minutes away and have never fished it. I've always been heavy into bass fishing but after a recent trip to Sandlin, my 7 yr. old found out he's pretty good with a jig :-). So to satisfy his (and my) withdrawals, we need a place to go for the day. I figured Lavon was a good start. Any advice is appreciated, so thanks in advance!

My best bite has came off of standing timber in 12-20' water fishing around 10' deep. Good luck. Fish are scattered so fish lots of trees.

I've been reading all about the incredible sand bass action on Lavon. They are on fire. Big ones too. If you are looking for crazy action for your son you might consider chasing the sandies off the points. I'm hoping to go sunday to do just that with my family.

If you find them or see them schooling they'll hit that crappie jig too!

Y'all have fun and be safe.

fished there this past weekend and had a tough day...... may try again this weekend. good luck!

I've had luck before fishing the timber north of the Tickey Creek Park ramp.

I think Lavon and other area lakes provide some great crappie fishing... no need to drive hours and hours past good water to far east Texas!

Thanks guys! I'll keep an eye on the birds (and the graphs as usual). Sounds like I'll rig some rods with jigs and some with slabs as well. I'll be sure to give a report with pictures after our trip. By the way, I gave him the choice to go fishing or attend the Toyota Bassmaster event in Frisco this Saturday. I'm proud to say, we're still going fishing. Thanks again!

I'm heading out there today with my son. I hope we can get into some sand bass action for him. He has never experienced that kind of bite.

I went Friday and didn't do very well. I didn't see any other fish caught. A few boats were looking for them and we spoke to a couple of them. They were marking fish but none were biting. We were in my jon boat and I didn't have electronics so we were fishing blind. We stayed all around Hybrid Point and the Island to the west. Only caught two small ones. Never saw any schooling on the surface. Hopefully it was just an off day and today will be better. I'll be in my 16' jon boat with my 11 year old son today. Its an older El Dorado with a new 15 hp Yamaha on it. If anyone see's us say hello and visit.
