River lake fishing has been good lately especially before this latest front. Catching plenty of Bluegills,Crappie,and even a few Redear. Even caught a Warmouth. Finally had a couple of descent days on Dunlap. With the current slowing down the sunfish bite picked up. Got good numbers of Crappie and Bluegill. Fish were holding close to docks and inside boat slips. Crappie were caught on jigs (Chartreuse/Pink) and the the sunfish were caught on worms and jigs (Chartreuse/Pink). Fish were located in 7 to 10 feet of water and some were caught suspended in about two feet of water. Float and bottom techniques were used. Since the freezer is full all fish were released. Cashing in on some good prefront fishing. It just don't get any better!


Side Note: Looks like the Guadalupe is going to be muddy for awhile. We got 3" of RAIN last night with more on the way.

Catching sunnies and crappies never gets old. So much fun. Spouse is sick, so I can't get out and fish this week. Will enjoy post by others.

Thanks for the reply! Hope your wife gets to feeling better! Weather has been super rainy with some severe storms. Looks like all of my places to fish will need to dry out some and settle down. It will be a few days. I do have a couple of spots I can go to but would have to travel a little.

Been a rainy spring for sure. Not looking forward to super hot days, but look forward to a dry, stable, summer weather pattern.

Yes Sir it has been a crazy weather pattern since last May! I have got 5" of rain since last Saturday. Forecast has rain in it all the way until Wednesday of next week! How much rain did you get up there in Austin?

Thanks Jamie. Dunlap is going to be a muddy mess for the next three to five days. We have gotten between 6 to 8" of rain since Saturday. Hard rain is falling now. Friends of mine living on Dunlap said they got hammered with over 5" of rain the last two days not counting what fell over the weekend. How much rain have you gotten.

We have actually been pretty lucky Chuck. Only 2.5 inches this month in Brenham. It is raining hard today though.

Lake Somerville is about 6 feet high. The last hard rain wasn't enough to back up the Brazos River and force the COE to shut the gates on the Lake. Last year they had to shut the gates and eventually the water crested over the emergency spillway which is 20 feet above normal. We are getting the same frequency of rain this year but not near the volume of water. Let's hope we only continue to get small showers.

Fishing is still slow but I think that has more to do with the crazy changes in barometric pressure throughout each day.

Thanks Jamie for the info. All of the water bodies down here are in good shape. Will not be fishing the river lakes all that much due to the summer season is just right around the corner. Wake boaters and ski boats will take those lakes over until Labor Day! It will be South West Texas Fishing,creek and pond fishing,some other area lakes along with hill country river fishing.

Awesome fish Guys. Looks like more water is being let out of Canyon. The tubing ban has been placed on the Guadalupe River due to fast currents. Shades of last May. Will this have a major effect on the bite on the river lakes. I have been fishing the eastern end a lot and the water has been muddy the last two times out. The current has also been stronger and the bite has slowed down.

The sign of a truly outstanding angler... "the freezer's full of fillets, so we released them all..."

Thanks Curtis and HC for the replies. HC: Yes Sir when the freezer is full the sunnies usually get pardoned. Curtis: We dodged a bullet this last rain event. Hopefully the Guadalupe will settle down some. The bad news is the river lakes will be taken over the wake boaters and jet fleas.
