I have the 1040XS units. 2D, down and side scan are great. Very easy to use. Mapping is just ok, in my opinion.

It shows you places of interest on the water like brush piles, etc. I haven't decided whether to buy it or not because according the the Garmin website the lakes I fish don't have it. I'm still trying to confirm that though.

To the OP I have a 93SV and 73DV as well. I'm pretty happy with them. Straight out the box with default settings you get good images.

I have not figured a way to make it talk to Navionics. I am no electronics pro!! I am happy with the units and the mapping which I did upgrade. What the mapping does not have are all of the house foundations and that kind of stuff pre loaded. I am glad to see they have the fishing hotspots(they may have had this for a while but it is new to me)I will be downloading that very soon! The images and all of that work great out of the box. What I liked was the fact that I did not need extra boxes or cables or anything to make them work. I installed them, followed instructions to update software, and went fishing. My kind of stuff, turn it on and it works. I will say that if you want to read depth while on plane, you need a shoot through hull transducer and a different unit. Mine works up to about 7MPH without distortion which could be where I located my transducer but I have heard others give similar results. GPS, time, water temp, all that stuff is great and all really easy to figure out even for a dummy like me.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

If you buy the navionics apps for your phone you can find all the foundations, road beds etc and get the coordinates and punch them into your graph if you can find the time.
