Had a great time over the 3 days of fishing and catching up with some old friends at the Legend of Lake Fork Tournament.
I will try and put my story together with a few pics, hopefully it will come out like I intended.
Please add your your comments or stories as well.

Day 1 started out looking to be a great day and on the 2nd cast with a 1.5 square bill, I catch about a 3lb sand bass that flops at the wrong time and buries a treble in my middle finger. It was rodeo there for a bit when I had one hook in my finger the other in the sand bass which had also tangled in the net on the floor. Needless to say the sand bass didn't want to sit still while I tried to remove the hooks with my left hand.

After a text to a buddy, I make a short run to Mustang Resort and let "Dr." Larry Large do the line trick and remove the hook from my finger.
I will say that this is the first time I've had a hook go past the barb and surprisingly it did not hurt that bad (except when I was going to yank it out myself and then when I was going to push the point back thru and cut the barb) the line trick was quick and painless.

I get back to my spot by 8am and catch a few small fish but I pretty much missed the early morning bite so I move to my deeper spots.
I pull up and right off the bat catch a 2.10 fish that I figured would place so I put it in the well and tried to catch some more, that's when I catch this funny looking bass.

Went to the weigh in with my 2.10 and ended up 5th place for the 1-2 hour. Paid $175 and Legend doubled so $350 got my entry fee back. And I received a $100 Pflueger reel for being one of the first 20 early entries.

Day 2 started out with high expectations.
First light I catch a few small fish and then it shuts off when the wind picks up.
I move out deep and catch this nice slot on the first cast.

No other bites so when I get ready to move from the stump I was tied to, a big wave brings my trolling motor down on a stump and bust the head on my Minn Kota Fortrex.
I load the boat at 12:00 and head to Sartins Marine where Bryan went right to work replacing the broken parts and getting me back on the water.

I was back on the lake at 1:30 but didn't catch anything else the rest of the day.

Day 3 I started the day (like all tournament days) with high hopes, I was catching fish one after another for the first hour and a half with several being in the 1.75 lb range and a couple slots mixed in. Oh yeah, and the occasional big slab sand bass that brought back memories of day 1.
Moved to my deep spots and immediately catch a nice slot fish on a C-Rig. This guy was healthy and looked to be an over as I get him in the net.

But as you can see I came up a little short.

Then I make a move to another deep spot and catch another slot that I'm gonna guess was about 7 but came off at the boat. Then I catch this skinny slot. Notice the bottob jaw is broken clean into.

Here are the results that were posted. It does not include the last 2 weigh in hours for some reason. I beleive it was a 7# fish that won the 1-2 hour and then the 10.55 that Holt Markum weighed in the last 20 minutes to win the last hour and the overall biggest bass of the tournament.

Overall I had a great time and am really blessed to catch some quality fish over the past 3 days.
I thank God for giving me the opportunity to fish and keeping all of the anglers safe. Thank my wife Lynda for allowing me to be away from home so much.
I want to give a big thanks to Eric Wright for showing me some things about how to catch unders on Lake Fork
Thanks to all who had a part in putting this event on and congratulations to all of the people who were fortunate enough to get a check.
Looking forward to next year.

great story! I've got to learn the line trick to remove a hook; I know it will happen to me some day, especially with those crazy sand bass in Fork.

Great write up Danny. We skipped it this year for various reasons but it looks like you had a great time. I can't believe another 3+ pound under won the under boat. I think that is 3 straight yers someone brought in an under that was 3+ pounds.

Wow Danny what a enjoyable read, sorry about the hook thing though. Thank goodness you had a guy like Brian to get you back on the water. Have not got to fish in the new boat yet (ready).

Nice post! From a guy who has had 4 past the barb experiences, I agree that the line trick is the best!

Ouch!!! I have done that with a 6 XD and a 4 lber that buried into my calf.

The funny looking bass in the second pick is a drum / gaspergou.

Congrats on the check. That always eases the pain.

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

Thanks for the input guys.

I know Randy, I was just trying to be funny. LOL I thought I had a good under when he first hit though!

Way to go Danny!

You need to know how to do the line-pop trick. I have popped the hook outta probably 25 people including several LF guides. LOL
