Hello knowledgeable boaters. Have a question regarding transom repairs. Has anyone ever had a transom repaired and still been able to fish and use the boat? After repairing it, were there thoughts of remorse or happiness when fixed as in cost to gain? Is there any way that insurance would cover it? Thanks for the read!

A friend of mine did his 30' Scarab with twin inboards, cut out the old wood and glassed in new marine plywood glued together, time consuming but not really difficult. Transom is better than new. He is doing a 19' cuddy cabin inboard now, factory transom he cut out barely had any glass on it! Going back together better than new.

I have also heard very good reports from those that used seacast too.

But the cost of having a shop do it may be cost prohibitive.....

Easiest way is using a pourable transom such as seacast. I did mine with a similar product and was very happy with the results. You can do it yourself in about 2 weekends. You have to cut the cap off the transom and save it to put back on. The hardest and most time consuming part is removing all of the rotted wood. Once it is removed, mix and pour, replace cap and mount engine and you're done. I think it cost me about $400. Transom was stronger than new.

I used Sea-Cast on mine...works great..makes the back end way lighter and more durable also.

When I poured mine, I also put on a CMC tilt and trim. While moving the tilt down, the motor bottomed out on the floor and lifted the back of the boat off of the trailer. The transom never flexed at all.

I had mine transom replace by Classic and it is better than new.

Sooner Fiberglass in OKC did my '97 Champion replacement for $2,000. Cheapest place in Texas I could find wanted $4,500 for the same job.
