I put in at Silver Lake Marina across from Cowboys Golf Club on Fairway drive south of dam. I normally put in at the free ramp at Murrell park but that's under water. Silver Lake Marina conveniently raises the price to launch from $10 to $20 when the other ramps are closed.

The Katie's Woods high water ramp is open and the lower parking lot is now open so there is plenty of parking except for the weekends. Cost to launch is only $5. The lake is still 3.5' high but falling rapidly so the other ramps should begin to open soon.

Thanks for the heads up and the savings tip. I drive home daily across the dam accept for the last month or so since it has been closed. It has been opened in the last week and I noticed tonight when I drove across it that the shoreline on the Northwest part of Dam is now showing again. I will check Murrel Park ramp again soon to see how far the water has dropped.

Fished grapevine yesterday for the first time in at least a month. Found lots of fish. Bite on the bottom wasn't very good. Did catch a few magnum sandies on jigs in a few spots. Finally found a load of fish from top to bottom in 25 ft of water. The suspended fish were biting slab and jig combos and double jig rigs in Chartruese about 5-10 ft under the surface. Almost every hook up was a double hookup. A little less than half of those fish were keepers. Hardly anyone on the lake. Only saw Luck of The Irish and a crappie guy in Camo boat with the most rods I think I have ever seen on a boat. Maybe 20 rods standing up on each side. Launched out it Murrell high water ramp and was the only boat there between 8 and noon.

Thanks for the report. Do you mind sharing the general areas you found the fish? I was out 2 weeks ago and charted areas everywhere between the rock crusher humps, sandbass point, the island (and humps east of there), and around Murrel Park. Can't say I ever saw a school of fish worth fishing for. I idled around for over an hour, then my son fell asleep, lol. He got bored so we went home. He wants to try again Saturday morning, maybe 7 am till around 11, then I'll let the pleasure boat crowd have at it. Thx

Anybody been out today or yesterday? I'm planning on taking my dad out tomorrow morning and would like all the info I can get to put him on some fish. We only get to go once or twice a year!

FYI - Murrell park is my home base. I keep my boat at twin coves marina. Last summer right before the park got flooded out they invested in their high water boat ramp. They improved the ramp and the area/parking around it. It has been open almost all summer. Based on my experience the ramp is open up to about 17 ft above normal water level. The park will close when the water gets close to 20 feet over. The ramp is a little hidden and it seems a lot of people still do not know about it. It is at the end of fishing trail 5. Below is a link to the location via Google map. Dropped Pin near Trail 5, Flower Mound, TX 75022 https://goo.gl/maps/c6ejbwy6ML82Also, the park does not open until 6am which is a little annoying.

Great info for high water, is it $5 fee like some of the other ramps?
Slide right, coming in .... Fish On!

Went today and the employee at the gate told me that you only had to pay for camping and let me through to the boat ramp for free. Went around twin coves and then over to the island. Found them boiling on the top and game on. All of the sandies were small but still had fun with my dad. Overall a great day!

All boat ramps are free in Murrell park. Only camping has a charge. 75% of the time there is a person at the gate simply to ask what you are doing. Does not seem to be a great investment of resources but maybe I am missing something.

The Sandbass are schooling throughout the lake on points. Early morning and late evening are the best times. My son and I caught 28 Sandbass this morning in an hour and half from a kayak without a depth finder. I went back this evening without him and caught 18 Sandbass, 2 Largemouth Bass and one big Smallmouth Bass. Most of the fish hit a 1/8 chartruse and white Maribou jig. Late in the evening I was trying a 1/4 oz Bucktail jig when the Smallmouth Bass hit. We were using 6 pound Trilene XL line. I really believe the light line doubles the number of strikes. We did lose a couple of jigs to the trees but didn't have any fish break off.

Awesome to hear the great reports. I have very limited experience at the vine but am hoping to get out a few times in the next month or so while I have my dads bay boat up here. Looking for somewhere to take the kids fishing to snag some whites. Any info is greatly appreciated! Tight lines!
