Was at Academy yesterday and picked up some stuff to try Texas rigs, since I've read and heard a little about them. I got a package of Zoom worms and pumpkin seems to be the recommended all-around color. I was surprised as they are about the color of Canadian night crawlers. Are there any other "need to have" colors or plastics on hand for fishing these rigs?

Berkley motor oil is always a good go to color to use and watermelon with red flaks and camo is also some good colors.

All you need now is to put a little Night Crawler Extract in the bags and you are good to go.

Watermelon red, green pumpkin, black/blue, pumpkin, and white will cover most situations.

Berkley Power Worm 7" The #1 must have plastic for a Tx rig for me would have to be a 7" Power worm. These have been around for YEARS and have caught millions of fish! It's considered a good ol' stand-by for many anglers! Blue fleck and motor oil are must have colors Zoom Brush Hog Another #1 bait for a Tx rig is the Brush Hog. It's just as good as the Power Worm and is a must have for any angler!

Hate the powerbaits never had luck with them. Totally agree with Rage plastics when bass are active. Not so much when they are inactive. Zoom has a lot of good baits and colors. All the colors mentioned pretty much cover it. Definitely want Senko style baits and a form of craw.

If your just starting to throw soft plastics, watermelon red baby brush hog is a good confidence builder.

One thing to realize is that a Texas rig does not necessarily look like a worm to a bass. In most instances a Texas rig is set to look like a dying fish or crawfish or something else that is natural to their environment. If you get into that mindset and you are more likely to fish it like the fish want to see it .
That being said, the color of the plastic is mostly shoes to match or contrast the color of the water (with a few exceptions). Many aquatic animals have a tendency to hold a lot of colors that are close to the water color itself.
