Greetings folks,
I am fairly new around here and will just briefly share. We have been an outdoor family my whole life and I bought a boat this last year with intent to duck hunt primarily and the guys at Blackbeard steered me towards a side console set up and low and behold were they right. We have been fishing at every opportunity.
With that being said my 17 yr. old is very interested in improving his skill set and learning to fish bigger water more effectively. Where would you steer a hungry mind, to learn about techniques and patterns that are applicable to fishing in present conditions as well as overall?

Questions:

Front live well (1756 G3 SC) isn't filing, motor running but no fill, thoughts on simple things to check I may be overlooking?

Leaders when throwing Frogs and drop shots, why? How?

Try turning on the livewell pump and then backing the boat up to prime the pump.

Good call, didn't think of that option.

The internet is loaded with video, and information on techniques. Guide reports are available depending on the lake, and to be honest, this site may be one of the most informative. Lots of folks willing to help and share.

welcome We are glad your here and will share those techniques to help your son. Just ask and use your search function to find those topics that have already been shared. There is a post running right now on your leaders for drop shots.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

I personally don't use leaders for either of those applications. Frog fishing I use 55lb power pro braid tied directly to the frog and drop shots I use a 10-12 XPS florocarbon the whole set up.

I had that issue with the bilge on mine and found the hose pinched shut. You may want to check that. I am not sure about the live well but someone on here will chime in but maybe the power leads reversed will make the pump reverse thus no water coming in.
Like above, I don't use a leader on either of those applications.

Front livewells get air bound all the time. That's why just about everyone has deep sixed front livewells for the back. Try this: Turn the pump on and put the boat in reverse and run it a short distance backwards. That should force water into the livewell and prevent the pump from getting airbound, until next time. I would suggest hiring a guide for a half or full day trip and tell the guide its not about catching fish as much as teaching your son various techniques and presentations and when to use them Hope that helps.

thanks for the good advice, yes, I am a firm believer in the guide option, unfortunately I have two sons that fish and at the present rates its a tad steep for me to use them often, Justin Margraves helped us recently and he was great about the why and how. I would use him again or others if recommended.
