I have a 97 Champion 202 B&B w/250 ProXS, 10" jack, 3.4" under pad, slightly beat up 27 Tempest +P. Motor is mounted solid, hyd steering, gorilla hull and one transducer on the transom. Get it on pad, running straight at over 50 mph in calm water and the rear end twitches sideways about 6", WTH! It'll do it then as little as 10-20 seconds later it'll do it again. Sometimes as long a minute or two will go by then a sideways kick.

Get the prop fixed, then run it again. Prop is loosing bite for sure. Need to eliminate that issue first. Josh at Steve's Custom Props in Quitman can get you fixed up.

Its something more than a prop if it does it at just over 50 mph.

The Gorilla hull may be doing something to the pad.



Its not nearly as bad as an Allison when it goes bad. Eighty mph and an immediate 90 degree left turn. It would throw you out of most boats. The Allison bucket is all that saved me........a couple times when setting it up.

Something is causing cavitation to the prop, make dang sure you don't have a transducer, speedo pickup, anything that can disturb the water. A chunk out of the gelcoat can cause issues.

Then try a different prop.

What does it do at 60 and 70 or is it undrivable at the higher speeds? If to squirrel lower it a bit on the JP

Pretty sure it does the same just not as noticeable, going in for outpatient surgery tomorrow so it will be a couple days or more before I can take it back out and check. Thanks!

IIRC it was doing that when the prop was brand new so hitting the sand bar and scuffing the leading edge isn't the cause. But who knows, I sure don't.

After you've made sure there isn't anything causing water to be disrupted, change props. I had a 202/225 that did the same thing, changed from trophy to a tempest and it never did it again. And have seen the opposite...sometimes these dang ol' boats are just a mystery.

When it comes to a champ a tempest does not have the right geometry or cup to make that boat run. Those props often blow out like that when they are box stock or damaged. Cover all your bases on previous advice then give me call if it still has that problem. 903 763 0200
