Been noticing my 88 Yamaha pro v 150 carbed motor cutting out a lot lately. This week it started cutting out while running the lake to some favorite spots. About 2/3 throttle it would pick up then slow down a little then repeat the whole way. Today it had a hard time getting on plane. It did the first 2 throttle ups. Then I the third it wouldn't break plane. You could here the motors rpms go up but boat was bogging down. The motor died then would not crank. Trolled back to the ramp and trailered the boat. Then we found the battery ground cable has a break in it cable before the battery ground terminal. Now my question. Can a bad battery ground cable cause all these issues.

Doesn't sound electrical to me. Sounds like fuel system. But I'm no mechanic.

Yes the break or it breaking all the way can shut it down. As it is breaking you will get intermitent power along with low power causing coils not to fire. Fix the ground first, fire it up on the muffs run it if it runs good take it out and see. Keep it simple as what you have posted looks like a fuel issue also (not saying it is). One thing at a time.

Manual fuelpump diaphragms.

Take someone else with you and have them slowly and SAFELY pump the fuel bulb when it is acting up, if it fixes the problem check for bad fuel filter and then fuel pump.

If you have not replaced the fuel line and bulb you might as well replace it. That ethanol will ruin the line and bulb.

I'm kinda having the same issue, got out over the weekend and noticed my boat having trouble getting on plane but did. After that it wouldn't even get close to plane but still idled and ran fine at low speeds. I'm assuming it's a fuel delivery issue since my motor didn't rev quite like normal at WOT. Have you checked you prop hub? Maybe it's spun and needs to be replaced.

Not too sure it would be the hub, when mine spun the engine revved up really high like it was cavitating

My 06 vmax was doing the same thing last year. At first it would cut out when given about half throttle but run ok at lower speeds. It slowly got worse. I ended up finding that the carbs were gunked up. Pulled, stripped down, cleaned, and reinstalled them. It ran like brand new after that. It took a couple of hours but wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I was able to go back with the same gaskets though.
