I took my 2014 Ranger w/ Mercury 250 Pro XS in for service at their location on Monkey Island at Grand Lake, Ok. Engine was surging at high RPM's. I had taken this boat in for routine service at their Tulsa, OK location last year.
Went to pick the boat up this morning after they said they could not get the engine to surge when they test drove it. They told me the engine warranty was still in the previous owners name, which I thought the Tulsa location was going to have it transferred last year. Then told me it would cost $175.00 to transfer the warranty. I looked up on Mercurys website to find the process of transferring the warranty. No where did it say there was a fee. I then emailed Mercurys warranty registration department to see if indeed their is a fee. They said no, unless it is an extended warranty and then it depends on the horsepower. I told Gary Nichols this information and that I was not going to pay a fee that was not charged by Mercury. He told me to get the f$@# out of his store and never return to any of his locations. I said fine, I will contact Mercury about his actions and took my boat and left.
Unbelievable that an owner will try to commit fraud and treat a customer this way. I plan to let as many people as possible know about this experience.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally unacceptable

Local John Deere dealer(Miniola) tried about the same hosing thing to me this year, tried to charge me over $800.00 for no more then 1 pully and a simple drive belt. I now stop people in the local stores to give my opinion of that place. smile

Good for you Horseplay! I tried to buy a boat from the Longview store a while back and the salesman was a real d-bag. Guy kept adding on the price for stuff that was already on the boat. I got a bad feeling about the place and bought elsewhere. But from my impression of the place ,I doubt they really cared if they lost the sale or not.Take your business elsewhere,I'm sure Mercury will make it right.

Here you go. Do it yourself since you can't get them to do it for you. You might need to call about the fee but I think its free.

Not Necessarily fraudulent, but unbelievably over priced for just doing some paperwork for you. Regardless, being treated in that manner by the owner is enough reason not go back and advise people against doing business there.

Bought my 2014 Ranger there and had a very pleasant experience. Gave me the best price I found on the boat I wanted and gave me a more than fair price for my trade. When I picked the boat up it was full of gas and oil and ready for me to take to the lake. The few problems I had with the motor were taken care of very quickly and the boat was as clean as it was when I took it in. Not saying you didn't have a bad experience just thinking it may not be norm for them.

None the less, your customers are your lifeblood, they pay your bills and without them, you don't have a business. If I get an attitude over anything, I don't go back. I react the most effective way I know, I spend my money somewhere else. Some of these retailers don't realize that you are not the only customer they are going to lose, and there is also a shopping world elsewhere, even if you have to drive a little to get to it.
