Hi guys, I'm looking into heading out to Rayburn this weekend with a friend and this will be our first time out there. Just wanted to know the dangerous spots in the lake, where to run, and what to avoid and such. I will taking my boat for the first time here we will launch on the west side of the Rayburn (Caney Creek Park) to be exact.

I hear there are a lot of tree stumps in the area... Any good advice where to go?

Ease around the point at Caney and run up the lake (nw to the Black Forest area). Stay about 200-300 yards offshore when running the 2-3 or so miles. You need to know where the forest is at!! Just stay left and fish the 10 or so creeks and points from preacher rays all the way to Mudd Creek. That oughta keep you busy for a while!! Good luck.

At the level Rayburn is currently at your really in the clear. U'll be running over stump tops that are 6 ft below the surface. Until u get north of the 147 bridge and then there would be only a few concerns at the current level, but still not many.

boat lanes don't matter too much when its 4.5ft high.

Some folks have told me that east side of the lake is clear to run with no issues, is this true?

Considering if it was normal level. Below veach and caney is clear, except ash bayou arm. East side is clear to harvey. West side also clear but not,as wide as east side. Again I can run straight up the middle to the 147 bridge with no issues this weekend due to high water.
